Gloria Arroyo de Leon, PE

Gloria Arroyo de León, P.E. is a Latina woman born and raised in Puerto Rico. Before being diagnosed with lung cancer in August 2022, she built a successful career as an engineer, holding various leadership roles, including Executive Director of Automation and Maintenance for Puerto Rico’s Aqueduct and Sewer Authority. In these positions, she led teams to ensure efficient operations and maintenance across multiple facilities. Diagnosed with lung cancer (EGFR19 mutation), she underwent a lobectomy on her right lung and is now on targeted therapy.

As a new advocate, Gloria is passionate about raising awareness of lung cancer in non-smoking women, the challenges faced by Puerto Rican lung cancer patients, and addressing healthcare disparities in minority communities. She also seeks to highlight the mental health journey that accompanies a cancer diagnosis. In March 2024, she joined the GO2 Foundation in Washington, D.C., supporting efforts to secure more federal funding for lung cancer research. She volunteers with the LUNGevity Foundation and the American Cancer Society to advance her advocacy work.
