Detroit Lung Cancer Screening Listening Session

Dr. Manley was a virtual panelist along with Dr. Jamie Studs at the Lung Cancer Screening Listening Session with Hope Village Revitalization community organization. Hope Village is a neighborhood in Detroit that is adjacent to where Dr. Manley grew up. As part of this listening session, we discussed lung cancer risk factors, lung cancer screening, LDCT screening eligibility, and what happens during screening. We also discussed menthol and how it was targeted to inner city communities, why menthol makes it hard to quit utilization, why neighborhoods do not hear about lung cancer or screening, other byproducts in tobacco, and stigma.

We would also like to thank Dr. Kristin Maki and the Karmanos Cancer Institute Office of Cancer Health Equity & Community Engagement (OCHECE) for asking us to speak. It is rare that we get to speak about lung cancer in Detroit.
