Press Release

NEW YORK, NY – March 26, 2024 – STEMM & Cancer Health Equity (SCHEQ) Foundation, a minority-led nonprofit organization, today announced that it will be presenting its first poster at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting that will be held at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California April 5-10, 2024.

SCHEQ was launched in August of 2023 with the broader goal of addressing structural and systemic barriers that impact STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) entry and access, STEMM advancement, and improving outcomes for underserved patients navigating cancer. Our first poster will explain why SCHEQ was founded, what we plan to accomplish, how we plan to achieve it, and what has been done since our launch.

“We still see that kids from minoritized backgrounds do not see many like them in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) fields at early ages, thus by the time the finish high school, they may not be aware of all of the potential possibilities they have ahead of them,” said Eugene Manley, Jr., PhD, Founder and CEO of the SCHEQ Foundation. “We also lose many diverse scholars in academia and medicine that have many skills due to lack of support, and this in turn manifests in a workforce that does not reflect the patient populations with the greatest cancer disparities.”
